Zakon Group CTO Recognized by International Engineering Association
CONWAY, NH - July 16, 2003 - Robert Zakon, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Zakon Group LLC, has been elevated to the grade of Senior Member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in recognition of his accomplishments in Internet and Web technologies.
The IEEE is a technical professional association of more than 380,000 individual members in 150 countries. Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others. Less than 10 percent of IEEE members reach Senior Member status, which requires a minimum of ten years in professional practice and having shown significant professional contributions over a period of at least five years.
Zakon manages his firm's high-tech consulting practice, and is actively involved in Web development, emerging technology integration, and strategic planning for clients. He has worked with Internet technologies since the mid-1980s, and counts among some of his accomplishments the first capability to allow browsing foreign language Web sites in English, the design and development of one of the first corporate Web intranets, and the engineering of the highest Wi-Fi (wireless network) link in the eastern United States.
Zakon has authored over 30 technical papers and briefings, and chaired or presented at over 20 conferences ranging in topics from information security and user interfaces to multilingual computing and technology policy. Of greatest pride however is his Hobbes' Internet Timeline, available at www.zakon.org, published as an authoritative history of the Internet by the Internet standards body and in thousands of books, magazines, reports and Web sites. Zakon holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in computer engineering and science with concentrations in philosophy and psychology from Case Western Reserve University.
Locally, Zakon is a member of the e-Peaks Board, First Run Angels Group Advisory Board, and the Tech Village Education Committee. He also volunteers with local institutions such as the North Conway Public Library and the Mount Washington Observatory.
